Google calendar not syncing on my Android phone

I was having issues with my Samsung Note 3 Android phone not syncing to my Google Calendar, it took a while to find the solution with a lot of hair pulling.

Here is how I fixed the issue:

In your phone head to Settings > Data usage > menu (left button on some phones) > and tick Auto Sync data
